HOW TO BE AWARE

Awareness can be raised by regular arrangements of kidney screening, rallies, seminars, etc. Awareness can be raised by publishing journals about kidney diseases in the national newspapers, magazines too. Electronic and print media can play a vital role here. They, alone, can raise the maximum awareness across the country.

All the reasons that cause kidney disease:

Ø  Junk food and food with pesticides

Ø  Smoking and drug use

Ø  Uncontrolled pain medication or over-the-counter antibiotic use

Ø  Diabetes

Ø  High Blood Pressure

Ø  Dehydration, excessive vomiting, diarrhea, hemorrhage

Ø  Hereditary kidney disease

Ø  Urinary tract infection and urinary tract obstruction

Ø  Sedentary lifestyle

Ø  Kidney inflammation

Ø  kidney stones

Ø  Excess weight

Ø  Age above forty

 

Symptoms of kidney disease:

Ø  Loss of appetite or nausea

Ø  Anemia, feeling weak

Ø  Burning sensation during urination, frequent urination

Ø  Redness of urine, frothy urine or inability to urinate

Ø  Itching for no reason

Ø  Pain in both sides of the spine, lower abdomen or urethra

Ø  Sleep disturbance   

Ø  Passing stones in the urine, passing protein or meat

Ø  Swelling of the eyelids or feet

Ø  Gradual fading

Ø  Diminished sexual power.

Ø  Darkening of the skin

Ø  Decreased or stopped urination

 

Healthy lifestyle to keep kidneys healthy:

Ø  Physical activity, sports and regular exercise. At least 30 minutes of brisk walking 5 days a week.

Ø  Abstain from smoking and drug use.

Ø  Eating a healthy diet that includes vegetables and fruits every day.

Ø  Keeping weight under control and avoiding fast food.

Ø  Drinking enough pure water.

Ø  Do not take any medicine without doctor's advice. Drinking purer water while taking painkillers.

Ø  Keeping high blood pressure and diabetes under control and checking blood pressure regularly as advised by the doctor.

Ø  Keeping clean, washing hands before eating.

Ø  Seek immediate medical attention for hives and sore throat.

Ø  Regular kidney function tests.
